Michelangelo's Bacchus, 1497
Michelangelo’s Bacchus (1496-1497)
Michelangelo was 21 years old when commissioned by Cardinal Raffacle Rianrio to do this statue of Bacchus. He didn’t care for the drunkenness of Bacchus though and sold it to a banker, Jacopo Galli where it was placed in his garden. Later it was displayed in the Uffizi until
about 1591. It now can be seen in the Palazzo del Bargello, Florence, Italy.
The grapes are from the Empordàlia winery in Catalonia, Spain.
